Climate Action Certification
We have taken a very proactive position on climate change because we view it as a very serious threat to the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and Marine Park in which we operate.
The Climate Action Certification Program is a product of Sustainable Tourism Australia and is dedicated to ranking efforts to reduce carbon emissions. It is designed for all sectors of the tourism industry, regardless of size and level of carbon reduction already undertaken. It includes hotels, attractions, tours, transport, restaurants, travel agents, tourism commissions and industry bodies.
Holiday-makers and travelers will easily be able to judge the efforts being made by tourism operators to reduce or eliminate the carbon footprint of their operation with this new certification system.
Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises participated in the pilot program for Climate Action Certification and was very proud to become the first ever “Leader Level” (Zero Carbon Footprint) tourism operator within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and Marine Park to be certified at this level.
We recognize environmental management as one of our highest corporate responsibilities and are committed to being environmentally responsible, promoting environmental best practices and maximising sustainability.
Our tours are accredited with or certified under:
- Advanced Ecotourism Certification (Ecotourism Australia).
- Leader (highest) level under Climate Action Australia’s Certification Program (Climate Action Australia).
- The Australian Government’s climate change initiative Greenhouse Challenge Plus (Greenhouse Challenge Plus).
- The Australian based Planet Safe Partnership (Planet Safe Partnership)
We are offsetting our direct emissions via “additional” future forest sink offsets supplied by Greenfleet Australia. Greenfleet is an Approved Abatement Provider under the Australian Government’s Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative.
